3. Develop a change plan that assures success

Target Audience
Suitable for all RN's in any practice setting

The purpose of this activity is to assist the learner in adopting strategies to successfully implement change using evidence-based strategies for the improvement of clinical practice and/or patient outcomes.

Course Overview 
This course presents selected material of change theory and suggested healthcare leadership applications for those theories.

There will be several opportunities for you to reflect on your organization and culture.

This program is most useful if you have an initiative or project in  mind, so that you can develop your change plan as you progress through the course.

Course Objectives 
  • Explain the need for a change plan when implementing new initiatives
  • Evaluate proposed change for resisting and driving forces
  • Develop a change plan based on minimizing resisting forces, optimizing driving forces
  • Reflect on personal behaviors and impact on change implementation
  • Create  a transition plan for individuals involved in change.

Carol Anne K Kozik, CAS, MS, FNP
Carol Anne Kozik is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Upstate Medical University College of Nursing, a Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist and a Family Nurse Practitioner.  Carol Anne received her Master of Science degree from Upstate Medical University College of Nursing, a Certificate of Advance Study in Nursing Informatics from Duke University and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Science at Sage College.   In addition to nursing degrees, Carol Anne holds an additional undergraduate degree in English, Psychology and an emphasis on secondary education.  Carol Anne has over 20 years in nursing education and has developed courses at the Associate, Baccalaureate, and Graduate levels.  She is a certified consultant in appreciative Inquiry as has studied with the Institute for Intercultural Affairs and the Knollwood Institute for Process therapy.  Carol Anne frequently consults with organizations and groups to develop strategic plans, mission statements and to revitalize members.  Carol Anne presents nationally on patient education, nursing education, managing change in the healthcare culture, and use of technology to improve quality and safety.  Carol Anne has received several awards including the Central New York Pharmacists Association Nurse Practitioner of the Year in 2008, College of Nursing’s Distinguished Faculty in 2008 and in 2011, and the Upstate College of Nursing Alumni award in Nursing Education in 2011.
